After suffering a stroke, Thomas Milligan met his support worker, Ian Trounson, through Alliance Community. Ian’s visits help Tom with showering, cleaning, cooking, dressing, and attending appointments. They also enjoy walks, park outings, and social visits, sharing interests like old show tunes and politics. Ian’s support enables Tom to live independently at home.
Thomas met his support worker, Ian, through Alliance Community after suffering a stroke that made daily activities challenging. Ian’s regular visits provide Tom with assistance with his showering, light cleaning, cooking, dressing, and attending doctors appointments.
Beyond these daily tasks, they go for walks around the block, to the local park, catching up with Tom's friends but also spending time together and providing companionship from listening to old show tunes and debating politics to discussing their travel adventures. This support from Ian allows Tom to live independently at home rather than moving to an aged care facility.
Ian, who has been with Alliance Community for three years and holds a qualification in Disability Support, values the flexibility of his role. He often visits two to three clients a day, finding great satisfaction in the variety and impact of his work. Each day brings something new, and Ian takes pride in the meaningful support he provides to Tom, which contributes significantly to Tom's well-being and happiness.
